From London to Hurghada: My Journey Back to the Heart of Egypt
Hi, I’m Andy.
My story is a bit of a circle. I am 100% Egyptian by birth, but I was raised in the UK from the age of four. While I loved my life in Britain, I always felt a quiet tug at my soul—a feeling that I hadn’t yet found my true “home.”
In 2022, after nearly 50 years away, I decided to listen to that pull. I sold everything I owned, packed two suitcases, and returned to Egypt with a heavy dose of faith and optimism.
Coming home was a whirlwind. I was met with a mix of apprehension and overwhelming joy. I found myself reconnecting with a family so large I had either forgotten them or never met them at all! Navigating the beautiful, busy chaos of Cairo to find my roots was the challenge of a lifetime, but it was exactly where I needed to be.
Today, I’ve traded the English rain for the golden sun of the Red Sea coast. I live in Hurghada, where I’ve built a happy, comfortable life surrounded by a vibrant community of friends from every corner of the globe.
Why I created Always Egypt I am incredibly proud of my heritage and my country. Egypt is more than just ancient stone and sand; it is defined by a level of hospitality and a richness of culture that you simply won’t find anywhere else in the world.
Having lived in the UK for decades, I understand the questions and hesitations travelers have. But as an Egyptian, I know the “true” side of this country—the side that welcomes you like family. I started Always Egypt to be your bridge, helping you see the authentic heart of my homeland with the confidence of a local.
